Fostering Lorelai helped me find my way into the community again

After several years of dealing with chronic illness, I was just beginning to discover a new normal and reclaim my life when Covid hit.  With a dubious immune system, I joined the droves of people afraid to be around others and became even more isolated than before.  As time went on, I made extremely cautious excursions into the world, but there wasn’t much that seemed worth the risk.  That all changed in August of 2021, when a starving and obviously nursing teenage cat showed up on my doorstep.

I had been wanting to foster for years, and this sweet little family convinced my husband it was time to give it a shot.  Kitty Kat Haven & Rescue welcomed us into their foster program and helped us figure out how to get them all indoors.  Getting the kittens ready for adoption and going to adoption events helped motivate me to get back out into the world again.  Lorelai, however, was so shy and fearful we feared we might have to release her after her spay surgery. I had a feeling, though, and we gave her time to enjoy being a spoiled indoor cat.  By the time she was adoptable, we were in love and couldn’t let her go.  We adopted her!  Every time she climbs into my lap for a cuddle, I am grateful she came into my life.

Lorelai is the reason over 50 cats & kittens have had a foster home. After her kittens were all adopted, we just kept fostering.  My husband is now a dedicated foster dad and loves the fosters as much as I do.  Lorelai is the reason I have found a lovely and supportive group of people who share my love for cats. The journey has been slow and bumpy, some days are better than others, but I can always help a cat.
