COMMUNITY RESOURCES

We Can’t Help With Everything—but You’re Not Alone

While Kitty Kat Haven & Rescue can’t assist in every situation, we want to make sure you have access to resources you need.

These resources are shared for informational purposes. Some are trusted community partners, while others are organizations we’re aware of but do not evaluate.

🔍 Lost or Found a Pet? Start Here

Act quickly and use multiple tools at once. Start by searching your immediate area and talking to neighbors, then print easy-to-read flyers with a photo and contact information and post them nearby. If you’ve found a pet, have them scanned for a microchip as soon as possible: most vets and shelters can do this for free. Use social media and online lost-pet databases to spread the word fast, and check them often for updates. The sooner you take these steps, the better the chances of a safe reunion.

Petco Love Lost is a free, national database that uses photo-matching technology to help reunite lost pets with their families.

Based on our experience, this may be the most effective online search tool. We strongly recommend signing up for alerts, especially if you are searching for a lost pet.

Pawboost

Based on our experience, the initial free alert can be helpful. We have found the paid boost options to be less useful. 👉 https://www.pawboost.com/

Pet Radar

Based on our experience, the emails they send, especially those focused on tips and encouragement, can be genuinely helpful during a stressful search. 👉 https://www.petradar.org/en/

Missing Animal Response Network

This resource offers valuable insight into lost-pet behavior and search strategies, which can be especially helpful when a search becomes prolonged. 👉 https://www.missinganimalresponse.com/

Lost Cat Finder

One of our dedicated fosters went through an extended search for her own lost cat. It can happen to anyone, no matter how careful you are. She found the Find Your Lost Cat Kit helpful and well worth the cost. 👉 https://www.lostcatfinder.com/

🐾 I Found a Kitten — What Should I Do?

If you’ve found a kitten outdoors, the best first step may be to pause and observe before intervening. In many cases, a mother cat is nearby and will return. When it’s safe to do so, waiting and carefully evaluating the situation can give kittens the best chance to survive and thrive.

Don’t kitten-nap. These trusted resources can help you decide what to do next based on the kittens’ age, condition, and circumstances:

🐈 Community Cats & TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return)

TNVR (sometimes called TNR) is the most humane and effective way to help community cats—free-roaming cats who live outdoors and are not owned by any one person. Cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and then returned to their outdoor home. This prevents future litters, improves overall health, reduces behaviors like fighting and spraying, and allows colonies to naturally shrink over time.

Myth buster: Removing or relocating cats does not solve the problem. New cats quickly move in and the cycle continues. TNVR stabilizes colonies and prevents ongoing population growth.

✂️ Reduced-Cost Spay & Neuter

Spaying and neutering is one of the most effective ways to prevent suffering. It helps prevent unwanted litters, reduces the number of animals entering shelters, and improves long-term health and behavior for pets. Access to affordable spay and neuter services helps families keep their pets while supporting a more humane, sustainable community for animals.
